Hinged shells facilitate donning/doffing

CORONA™ Comprehensive Orthotic Rehabilitation of the Neuropathic Ankle

The Corona Orthosis facilitates expedient total contact stabilization of the foot and ankle complex. It is indicated for ambulatory patients with loss of protective sensation, foot deformity, Charcot changes, and general forms of foot and ankle instability. This bivalved thermoplastic orthosis provides total contact to the lower limb and restricts sagittal, coronal, and transverse plane movements to promote healing and improve alignment.

The orthosis is fabricated to the patient's impression and measurements, and can be fine-tuned by the orthotist for optimal biomechanical function. A deep, custom foot bed provides an intimate fit with the plantar surface of the foot to support the arch, unload compromised soft tissue, control hindfoot motion, and stabilize Charcot changes and fractures. The anterior and posterior rigid polypropylene shells are lined with viscoelastic foam to enhance total contact and provide precise control of the limb. In many cases, the CORONA orthosis can be used to replace total contact casts presently used in the treatment of pathological fractures and foot anomalies.

Features:

  • 3/16" anterior and 1/4" posterior polypropylene shells
  • Molded-to-patient model foot bed
  • Washable Coolfoam™ liner wicks away moisture
  • 1/2" viscoelastic foam core inside the Coolfoam™ liner conforms intimately to the patient's limb and provides support around the malleoli with hindfoot control.
  • Adjustable crepe rocker sole
  • Competitively priced—fast turnaround
  • Hinged anterior section and simple strapping system facilitate independent closure of the anterior and posterior shells.
  • Reversible strapping for easy adjustment of strap length and direction of pull.
  • Detailed orthometry/order form can also be used in the patient's chart to document soft tissue, bony collapse, and measurements.

Indications:

  • Patients with compromised soft tissue, pathological fractures, and Charcot changes in the foot and ankle without significant deformity.
  • Patients with other pathology who can benefit from a total contact, bivalved orthosis with deep custom foot bed.

Contraindications:

  • Patients with severe lower limb deformity are unlikely to fit into a CORONA orthosis. (A custom CROW AFO is recommended for patients with severe deformation.)
  • Patients whose affected foot has bony deformities greater than those that can be accommodated in extra depth or wide shank orthopedic footwear are also likely to benefit more from a custom CROW AFO.
  • Patients who exceed 250 pounds.
