Probing Questions for Parents to Ask a Prospective Orthotist

The treatment of deformational plagiocephaly is an extremely safe and effective procedure. Your rehabilitation team members will work together to provide you with all of the necessary information and instructions to make this treatment program a success for your child. The following questions are designed to assist the parent in developing a complete understanding of the 'orthotic' component of the treatment process.

Feel free to print out this list of questions and refer to them during your initial consultation with the orthotist. Establishing and maintaining open lines of communication will enhance yours and your child's experience with a cranial remolding orthosis.

1.	Do you have experience with cranial remolding orthoses?
2.	Has the orthosis that you are recommending for my child received 510(k) clearance from the FDA?
3.	Can you provide me with any written information to help me familiarize myself with this type of orthotic treatment program?
4.	Will you be communicating with my child’s physician(s) and physical therapist?
5.	Based upon my child’s condition, how long can I expect the orthotic treatment program to last?
6.	Can I expect one cranial remolding orthosis to provide the desired amount of correction for my child?
7.	How will you obtain a mold of my child’s head?
8.	How can we minimize the stress to my child during this process?
9.	How long does it take to have the cranial remolding orthosis made?
10.	When will we return for fitting and delivery of the cranial remolding orthosis?
11.	How often will we be seeing you for follow-up visits and adjustments?
12.	What types of adjustments will be made to the cranial remolding orthosis?
